Is Your Skincare Giving You Pimples?

When you are a teenager, your skin tends to be oilier and more prone to pimples than the grown ups. You are better off using skincare for oily skin. The kind of skincare labeled for younger skin and problem skin.

As you grow older, your skin matures. It becomes less oily. Pimples become a thing of the past. Fine lines and wrinkles threaten to appear. You change your skincare to fit your skin's changing needs. You switch to anti-aging skincare to preserve your skin.

Then spots start appearing. Soon, you look like a classic case of teenage acne. Your entire face is covered with angry red spots.

Does that sound anything like your current situation?

Pimples and blemishes appear during puberty because of hormones which cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Those hormones cause the horny layer of your skin to thicken and pores get blocked more easily. The acne bacteria, propionobacterium acnes breeds happily in the sebum stucked in that blocked pore. The result? That red inflammed bump known as a pimple.

Puberty isn't the only thing that messes with your hormones. Stress too can cause your hormones to go haywire, and pimples to appear. It is pretty common for stressed out middle aged folks to suffer from acne too. Besides, some women never outgrow acne.

If you are faced with pimples, evaluate your skincare. What skincare are you using?

If you are using antiaging skin, chances are, the creams you are using are too rich for your skin. They may very well clog your pores, or add more oil to your already oily skin. Even if you are in your forties, if you have oily skin, give the skincare meant for mature skin a miss. Stick to skincare for younger skin or oily skin or problem skin.

Is your skincare oil-free?

If you have a pimple outbreak, stick to skincare that is oil free. Why add more oil to the fire? Your skin has enough oil to fill those pores and to clog them. Why add more oil to your already oily skin?

Is your skincare noncomedogenic? Comedones are those hardened plugs in blocked pores. Blackheads, whiteheads and pimples start with these blocked pores. Non comedogenic skincare has been tested not to block pores.

Which cleanser are you using?
Does your cleanser effectively, yet gently clean your skin thoroughly, without adding more oil to your skin? If your skin is oily, you are better off using a wash-off cleanser. A foaming cleanser is excellent for oily skin. Cream cleansers or milky cleansers that have to be cleaned off with toners may be a little too rich for pimple prone skin.

Although you want to get rid of excess oil, you don't want skincare that is so harsh it strips all the oil and moisture from your skin. Alcohol based skincare may strip more oil than necessary, tricking your skin into producing more oil than before.

Your best bet is to switch to skincare meant for oily sensitive skin. The ideal skincare regulates your skin's oil factories, unblocks the pores through exfoliation and kills acne bacteria so your skin doesn't get pimples.

Skin Care - Skin Moisturizer Tips

Moisturizing is essential to make your skin soft, smooth and glowing. Like our body, our skin also needs hydration and proper nutrients to keep it healthy. So, treat it with a good moisturizer. Your skin needs more moisturizer if it is feeling tight. But remember not to over moisturize as it can cause pore-clogging. Regular use of a moisturizer can help prevent the dry skin that is common in winter. It provides longer wear for make up.

Only use a moisturizer where you need it. You cannot hydrate skin properly using topical applications alone - you have to drink plenty of water. Remember to always use a sunscreen during the day on the top of the moisturizer. This will protect the skin from pollution, sun damage and dehydration.

While dryness and peeling on the face becomes apparent immediately, dry skin on other parts of the body may not be so obvious. One thing women should watch out for is dry skin on the undersides of the breasts. Friction caused by bras and the onset of the winter weather makes the skin more susceptible to peeling and dryness.

Using a 1% OTC hydrocortisone ointment on your lips when they start to crack during the winter will speed the healing process.

When cleansing dehydrated skin you will want to use a milky cleanser. Milky cleansers are extra-gentle, healing and protect skin that is aggravated by environment or climate. To relieve skin of its ashy appearance, use an exfoliant with small granules after cleansing twice a week. The granules will be more aggressive in removing the dry cells that coat the skin.

Moisturize at least twice daily. This can help repair sun damage and slow wrinkling.

Look for moisturizers that contain cell-repairing compounds that have or include vitamin-A.

Apply a body moisturizing cream twice daily during the fall and winter to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

There is no better time to moisturize than immediately after your bath or shower. Treat yourself to a warm (not hot) bath infused with our moisturising bath and massage oil. While your skin is still plump and hydrated, smooth on moisturizing lotion or a rich body cream – and finish off with a light dusting of body powder to help seal in moisture.

Do not over-indulge in sunbathing. Excessive exposure to sun rays can cause dry skin, wrinkles and skin cancer. All areas that are exposed to the sun, such as the face, ears, hands, and back of the neck should have a moisturizer containing sun block or a sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater applied daily. As much as possible, stay out of the sun. The sun is responsible for most of the damage done to the skin. It causes dryness, wrinkles, and even rashes and blisters. Always apply a good sunscreen to all exposed areas of skin if you must be in the sun.

The best way to moisturize your skin is to apply a think layer of lotion or cream to the surface of your skin in an upward motion. This will help work the moisturizer into your skin, and it will also help to reduce sagging. You should read the directions for the products that you use to figure out how much to use and how to apply it properly.
