Dear Mary Director,
You have been told "Do not offer to use your own inventory to help her start because it will make her weak, and she may never order, if she can use you for her warehouse. That is not fair to you."
It is becoming increasingly clear that Mary kay "training" means how to SELL Inventory to Consultants, and not product to customers.
Following is a letter that I received from a lovely, heart broken mary kay consultant.
As you read this, don't be angry. I am not the enemy. Instead realize if something doesn't change, then you will be out of business and/or your consultants will turn to those like me who will show them how to build a successful business!
Hello
My name is J. P. and I'm a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. I have been In business in 3 years. I found out about Mary Kay Inc in my senior year in high school. I was very young at the time but I saw the opportunity of the company and the products. I join in head first and I got no help from my Recruiter or Director. But I was still giving $500 every couple of months for inventory. I was told by my Recuiter to give the money to her to make my order. Then one day I decided to call the corporate office to get information to do my taxes. The operator told me that I never made any order. Thats when I found out the money that I was giving her, she was putting it in her own name. So I never got credit for it only her, so I quit. Then Five Years later I started to see more Mary Kay vehicles out on the road and they had more to offer. So I rejoined again and now Even though things are diffrent now but its hard. My new Director will not speack to me because I have not gotten any inventory since I joined. I had recuited two people and they both quit because the treatment that they recieve from my Director and others in Mary Kay. I stop going to the meeting or conference call. When I did go to Unit meetings, I told my Director I wanted to learn my business first before I started to sell it. She told me to just sell and you will learn on your way. But the methods they taught to get business only got me hurt by mean people and disrespected. So I just only sold to my Co-workers.Now that I'm laid off I can't sell to my co-workers because they too is with out a job. All I want from my business is everything that they have to offer. I want to be a Director and my team to be a two million dollar unit. I want to own that pink Cadillac, and I want to own properties. But I don't have a clue how to get my business and dreams off the ground. Every thing Mary Kay teaches only leads to a dead end, too mix emotion, and broken dreams.
Help I'm in a pink hell.

It is true that you cannot build a business with an empty store. You have to have product.
It is also true that you can't build a business with a fully loaded store or wagon without customers to purchase product!.
When was the last time you walked into a McDonalds and there were no customers to buy hambergers?
Can you imagine walking into a shoe store that has no shoes? A car dealership with no cars? A grocery store with no groceries?
That said, no business owner runs a business purely on stocking inventory, unless your business is warehousing – which means you get paid ONLY for stocking product!
So unless your Mary Kay Cosmetics business is the business of stocking inventory, you may have a problem.
Mary Kay Director Success Tip:
It does not matter how fabulous a product, how great a service or an idea is, somebody has still got to sell it!
Has your mary kay business turned your living room, bedroom, and/or garage into a storage facility? Then is is time you learned out to move i.e., sell that inventory!
Is your marketing stragegy and your business about getting your consultants to purchase either $1800, $2400, $3000, $3600 OR $4,800 of inventory every quarter just so that you maintain production?
What happened to host home parties, getting facial appointments?
What happens the following month when you try to get in touch with these same consultants? Do these objections sound familiar:
- I haven't sold the inventory I bought last month
- I don't have the money to place orders this month
- I don't have time
- I have maxed out my credit card and I have so much product in my house
- Oh No! Here she comes again with her Mary Kay compacts. Arrrgh!
- I am not sure I want to continue with my mary Kay business as it is not making me any money
- My husband is getting upset that I am buying too much inventory than I can't sell
- I really am not selling and don't have the time I need to put this on the back burner
- just simply having them avoid or screen your calls end month or end of the quarter
- I don't want to go out and warm chatter. I hate to do it. I can't be like you, because you can talk to strangers and I can't.
- I don't want to beg or bug my family or friends
